INVITATION TO CELEBRATE
BUDDHA’S
BIRTHDAY 2008
Dear Brothers
and Sisters,
In the year 623
BC, on the day of the May Full Moon (Vesak day), in the
Lumbini Park, in Kapilavatthu, (on the Indian border with
present day Nepal) a Noble prince was born. He was destined
to be one of the greatest religious teachers of the world,
known as Sakya Muni Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.
The noble
Teacher sacrificed his worldly pleasures for the sake of
suffering humanity, to seek the Truth in order to show the
path of deliverance from suffering. For forty five years
after his enlightenment he dedicated his life to teaching
sentient beings to be free from suffering. Ever since, all
have benefited from His words of wisdom and compassion.
To show our
respect and remember the birth of the Enlightened One, the
Quang Duc Buddhist Monastery will mark this important event
