“Quán Âm Bồ Tát diệu nan
thù
Thanh
tịnh trang nghiêm lụy kiếp tu
Thiên xứ hữu cầu thiên xứ ứng
Khổ
hải thường tác độ nê lưu”
Nghĩa là:
Linh cảm Quán Âm thật khó lường
Trang nghiêm, thanh tịnh trừ tai chướng
Ngàn nơi nguyện cầu ngàn nơi hiện
Biển khổ rộng độ, bùn tỏa hương.
Đấy là một trong muôn
ngàn lời xưng tôn, tán tụng về hình ảnh, hạnh nguyện, và việc độ sanh của
Mẹ hiền Quan Âm. Ngài đã ban vui cứu khổ không biết bao nhiêu người trên
thế gian nầy, nên khi nghe đến Bồ Tát Quan Âm thì ai ai cũng đều biết và
một lòng cung kính, tưởng niệm.
Quán Thế Âm có nghĩa
là quan sát, lắng nghe tất cả những âm thanh đau khổ của người đời gọi tên
Ngài mà rủ lòng cứu giúp. Ngài đã thành Phật từ vô lượng kiếp trước, với
hiệu là Chính Pháp Minh Như Lai, nhưng vì Đại Từ Nguyện lực muốn cho chúng
sanh được an lạc mà hiện làm Bồ Tát với thân nữ để dễ gần gũi mà cứu độ,
và sau nầy khi Đức Phật Di Đà diệt độ, Ngài là bổ xứ Phật Phổ Quang Công
Đức Sơn Vương Như Lai. Tất cả cũng chỉ là thị hiện để cứu độ quần sanh.
Chắc trong cuộc đời
của mỗi người chúng ta, ai cũng đã ít nhất một lần được Ngài Quan Âm Bồ
Tát hộ trì, hoặc tưởng niệm hay nghe đến tên Ngài. Tại Việt Nam và khắp
thế giới, hình ảnh của Ngài đã thị hiện ở khắp mọi nơi, mỗi khi có những
đau thương, khốn khổ, kêu cứu, xảy ra. Từ Phổ Đà Sơn Trung Quốc, đến động
Hương Tích Việt Nam, hay hóa thành luồng mây trên bầu trời, khi bom nguyên
tử nổ ở nước Nhật, rồi đến những hình ảnh trên biển cả, đã cứu giúp kịp
thời những người vượt biển tìm tự do lâm nạn, hay những chuyện ứng hiện
cứu đời, mỗi khi có chúng sanh nào khẩn thiết tưởng niệm đến tên Ngài.
Với Công hạnh, đại
nguyện và sự cứu độ của Ngài, thế gian nầy cũng đã bớt đi nhiều đau khổ,
nên hình ảnh và tôn tượng của Ngài đã được dựng lên ở khắp mọi nơi, mọi
chốn, có thể là ở giửa những nơi đô hội, trang nghiêm để mọi người cùng
chiêm ngưỡng, lễ lạy, nguyện cầu, có thể là ở những nơi truông đèo vắng vẻ
hay thác ghềnh hiểm dữ gây chết người để cứu vớt sinh linh... mà nhiều
nhất là tại các chùa, các tư gia Phật tử thuần thành, đều có thờ phụng
trong chánh điện hay tôn tượng lộ thiên.
Tại chùa Pháp Hoa Nam
Úc trước đây cũng đã có tượng đài Quan Âm lộ thiên nằm bên góc phải trước
sân chùa, cũng đã cũ, nhỏ và chưa có nét nghệ thuật..., nên thể theo
nguyện vọng của đa số Phật tử, Hòa Thượng Viện chủ đã cho tạc một tượng
khác, lớn và đẹp hơn bằng đá Hoa cương tại Việt Nam có thể tồn tại trên
100 năm. Với bàn tay khéo léo, cần mẫn của những người thợ đục, chạm đá v§i
m¶t ngÜ©i phải mất trên 500 ngày công, để biến một tảng đá vô tri
thành một tôn tượng Quan Âm linh cảm cho mọi người cùng chiêm ngưởng, đảnh
lễ và nguyện cầu. Và hôm nay đây được chư Tôn Đức trong hàng Giáo phẩm VHĐ
và trung ương GHPGVNTNHN-UĐL-TTL, chư Tôn Đức Tăng, Ni, trong và ngoài
nước, đặc biệt có sự hiện diện của ông Thủ Hiến cùng chư vị quan chức cấp
cao của chính phủ Nam Úc, đại biểu các Tôn giáo bạn cũng như các Hội đoàn,
Phật tử khắp nơi về đây để khánh thành tượng đài của Ngài.
Với những thuận duyên
như vậy, tin chắc rằng Quan Âm Bồ Tát sẽ hộ trì cho mọi người đang tưởng
niệm, tôn tượng, nguyện cầu và hướng về Ngài, tất cả cùng được bình an,
lợi lạc, không còn tiếng kêu thương đau khổ nữa và từ đây tại Tổ đình Pháp
Hoa Nam Úc nầy Ngài sẽ tiếp tục : “Cầm nhành dương Ngài rưới nước cam
lồ lên khắp cả, trừ nhiệt não Ngài làm cho mọi loài được sống trong dòng
suối thanh lương, nghe tiếng kêu liền cứu khổ cho tứ sanh, Ngài thuyết
pháp độ thoát cho lục đạo. Sẵn tâm niệm Từ Bi kiên cố, đủ dáng vẽ tự tại
trang nghiêm, không cầu nào mà chẳng ứng, không nguyện nào mà chẳng thành.
Bởi thế chúng ta an trú trong tịnh quán chí thành đọc lại mật ngôn và gia
trì pháp vũ. Tịnh thủy nầy hoặc đọng trên ngòi bút của Đấng quân vương để
rồi tràn ngập sóng âm, hoặc nằm trên đầu cành dương liễu của vị Giác hữu
tình. Chỉ cần một giọt nước nầy rưới lên mà mười phương đều được trong
sạch.” (Trích Từ bi thủy sám pháp)
Sự linh ứng, nhiệm mầu của
Ngài Quán Thế Âm thì không thể nào diển tả cho hết được, nhưng biển khổ
của trần gian nầy thì vẫn mãi mãi, nếu những con người vô minh vẫn còn
sống ích kỷ, chỉ biết lo hạnh phúc cho cá nhân hay thân thuộc, chủng loại
mình... mà gieo rắc đau thương, tang tóc cho kẻ khác. Vậy rất mong mỗi
chúng ta hãy ý thức rằng :
“Tất cả niềm vui có được trên đời
Đều do, đem an lạc đến cho kẻ khác
Tất
cả khổ đau có ra trên đời
Đều
do, muốn gom hạnh phúc cho riêng mình.”
Và luôn sống với tâm niệm, cùng việc làm : “sáng
cho người niềm vui, chiều giúp người bớt khổ” mà đặc biệt nhất là mỗi
chúng ta hãy là một Quán Thế Âm, thường chịu khó lắng nghe, hiểu, thương
và san sẻ cho nhau những nỗi niềm thống khổ, những tâm sự vui, buồn, thì
trần gian nầy sẽ đẹp biết bao, và nếu tất cả đều
lÃy tình thÜÖng xóa bÕ hÆn thù, thì như vậy thế giới sẽ hòa
bình, chúng sanh sẽ an lạc ngay.

MOTHER QUAN YIN

It is most difficult to fully appreciate
The readiness of Mother Quan Yin (A valokitesvara)
Bodhisattva
And the wonders of her sensitive and miraculous answer
to your prayers.
In Her Grace and Majesty, in Her Purity and Serenity,
She dispels all troubles and removes all obstacles.
She will appear to respond to each and every call for
help,
Wherever and whenever it may be.
In the sea of sufferings
Her generosity helps to save and deliver all beings,
And even the impure mud will bring forth
The fragrance of sweet incense.
This
is one of the multitude words of praise telling about the apparitions of
Mother Quan Yin, Her Vows and Her Deeds of saving and delivering all
sentient beings.
She
brought joy and took away the suffering of countless number of people in
this world.
And so
when hearing the name of Quan Yin Bodhisattva, everyone understood and
joined their feelings and thoughts in respectful remembrance and
adoration.
Quan
Yin means to scrutinize, to listen carefully to all the cries out for help
in suffering,and to come to the rescue of whoever calls Her Name.
She was
a Buddha herself since countless kalpas, with the title of The Tathagata
of The Light of True Dharma.
However, out of her Greatest Vow of Loving Kindness and Compassion,and in
order to bring Peace and Joy to all sentient beings,
She took the appearance of a Mother to be close to them
in order to save them.
Later
when The Amitabha Buddha passed away, She became the Delegate Buddha
Tathagata of The Universal Light of the King of The Mountain of Merits and
Blessings.
All of
these names and titles were for the sole purpose of manifesting herself to
save people.
No
doubt, once at least in our lifetime, each of us must either have been
saved by Quan Yin Bodhisattva, or have heard of Her Name, or have invoked
Her.
In Viet
Nam and in the world, She appeared whenever and wherever there was
suffering, misery and distress call for help.
From
The Pho Da Holy Mountain in China to The Huong Tich Holy Cave in Viet Nam,
She used to appear in the form of a cloud in the sky, such as when the
atomic bomb exploded in Japan.
She
also took shapes of miraculous apparitions at high sea, saving just in
time refugees seeking freedom when their boat was facing great dangers.
There
were tales of Her apparition to rescue and save whoever urgently and
expressingly invoked Her Name.
With
Her Virtuous Deeds, Her Greatest Vow and Her Task of Rescue and
Deliverance, the amount of suffering in this world was reduced and
diminished to a great extent. Consequently Her images and statues were set
up everywhere, some in the middle of the cities,
for people to contemplate and appreciate Her grace and majesty,
some in remote and deserted mountain passes or perilous
and treacherous rocky waterfalls, to help save
travellers in distress.
But
most commonly She was worshipped in the temples or in the home of the
faithful Buddhists, either in the main hall or in the open space.
At The
Phap Hoa Dharma Lotus Temple in South Australia there was a statue of
Mother Quan Yin in the open space,at the right front corner of the block
in the temple's courtyard.
However
it was overworn and undersized, no longer in proportion with the change
and development of The Temple.
Consequently Most Venerable Hoa Thuong Thich Nhu Hue, Head of The Temple,
in accordance with the wishes of the majority of the Buddhist
congregation, had commis -sioned the sculpture of another statue of Mother
Quan Yin, larger and more graceful, carved in granite from Viet Nam;
probably it will last at least for the next hundred
years.
The
carving of the statue, by the skillful craftmanship and the sustained
diligence of the sculptors, took over 500 working days, turning a block of
insensitive stone into a sacred and wonderworking statue of Mother Quan
Yin for the people to contemplate,to salute and to invoke and pray to.
And
presently,blessed by the coming of our Most Venerables,
Venerables and Reverends in The Buddhist Hierarchy,
The Vien Hoa Dao Institute for The Propagation of The
Dharma, The Central Committee of The United
Vietnamese Buddhist Congregation in Australia and New Zealand,
our Bhiksus and Bhiksunis,
here and from overseas, we are most delighted
and very much honoured by the presence of The Premier and the higher
officials in the South Australian Government,
the representatives of other faiths and organizations and the gathering of
our Fellow Buddhists here today to celebrate The Consecration and
Inauguration of the Statue of Mother Quan Yin in the Open Space.
With
such auspicious and favorable settings and circumstances we believe that
Mother Quan Yin Bodhisattva will protect and help all who invoke Her Name,
honour Her Statue, pray and direct their mind to meet Her, so that
everyone will have Peace and Security, Happiness and Bounty, and so that
there will no longer be any distress calls for help from pain or
suffering.
And
from now on, at The Phap Hoa Dharma Lotus Temple, She will continue:
“To
rain Ambrosial Sweet Dew with a branch of the willow tree, to extinguish
the consuming fire of anguish and sorrow to allow all beings to live in a
brook of good and pure water.
She
will listen to all the calls for rescue from the
4 categories of beings, either hatched from an egg,
or formed in a womb, or evolved from spawn, or
produced by metamorphosis, and will bring them
freedom and deliverance from pain and suffering.
She
will teach The Dharma to the beings in the 6
realms of existence: either creatures of hell and hungry ghosts, or
animals and Atulas, or human beings and devas, to bring them emancipation
and deliverance.
With
Her firm and steady Vow of Loving Kindness and Compassion, with Her
relaxed and confident composure, full of grace
and majesty, She never failed to respond to any
one's distress call ,nor failed to help realize anyone's vow.
Consequently, when we rest our mind in the peaceful and contemplative
state of meditation, we should fervently recite
Her mantra and keep safe and good the Dew of the Dharma rain.
This
purifying water will remain either on the tip of the pen brush of Kings
and Emperors and will flow out in abundance to fill the earth with the
music of its waves, or it will stay at the tapering end of a branch of the
willow tree hold by The Compassionate and Enlightened One.
It
needs only a drop of this Purifying Water to cleanse the entire ten
quarters of the universe.”

It is
not possible to fully appreciate and to rightly tell all about Mother Quan
Yin's miraculous answers and Her wonderful readiness to respond to
distress calls.
But the
sea of sufferings in the world has no end either, and as long as people
continue to ignore each other and to live in a seltish way, caring only
for themselves and only for their own relatives or ethnic groups...then
the seeds for pain and misery, for grief and sorrow, will continue to be
sowed and propagated.
So we
wish and hope very much each and everyone of us to be fully conscious and
realize that:
"All
the joy in this world come from giving out peace and happiness to others,
While all the pain and suffering come from the desire of accumulating
pleasure and satisfaction for oneself."
Let us
resolve to live our life with the intent of “bringing joy to everyone
in the morning and relieving pain and suffering for everyone in the evenin”
and let us carry out this intent in our daily tasks.
In
particular, let us try to be a Mother Quan Yin ourselves, making an effort
to listen to others, trying hard to understand and to love them,
sharing their burden of distress, pain and suffering.
If this
can be achieved, then the world in which we live will be a much better
place, a more peaceful place,and all sentient beings will in no time enjoy
peace and be filled with happiness.
Nammo to The Quan Yin Bodhisattva Mahasattva of The Greatest Vow of Loving
Kindness and Compassion, Who Listens Attentively To Our Distress Calls and
Comes Readily to Deliver Us from Afflictions and Calamities.
