Thành Tượng Đài Quán Âm Lộ Thiên và Cổng Tam Quan Chùa Pháp Hoa
Kính thưa chư thiện hữu tri thức, quý
Phật tử và bà con đồng hương thân mến.
Nam Mô Đại Bi Quán Thế Âm Bồ Tát.
Thưa quý vị,
Hẳn quý vị còn nhớ, “vào khoảng 15
giờ thứ sáu, ngày 26 tháng 6 năm 2003, hàng loạt âm thanh của các vật thể
bị đổ và tiếng đập phá của một con người “không bình tĩnh” vang lên trong
ngôi chánh điện, làm chấn động cái không gian tịch mịch và thiền vị của
chùa Pháp Hoa”.
Chánh điện chùa Pháp Hoa là nơi gạch
nối, là chất keo sơn gắn bó, là sợi dây liên kết giữa con người với đời
sống tâm linh, là nơi hun đúc tình người, tình quê hương Việt Nam, nay lại
trở thành một cảnh tang thương đổ nát. Trước hiện tượng kinh hoàng ấy,
người có tĩnh tâm đến đâu cũng không khỏi xót xa đoạn truờng. Nhưng trong
ý niệm lúc đầu, tôi có một niềm tin vững chãi: chúng ta sẽ có sự gia hộ
nhiệm mầu. Thật vậy, tôi đã thấy tường tận, đã nhận rõ hình ảnh Bồ Tát
Quán Thế Âm – “Mắt thương nhìn cuộc đời”, đã khai thị đường đi nét
bước cho chúng tôi biết cách mà hành xử đúng tinh thần Từ Bi Hỷ Xả của đạo
Phật, nên hôm nay, chúng tôi mới hoàn tất việc tái thiết lại chánh điện,
đem lại sự hài hòa cho nhân tâm thế sự.
Trong kinh Từ Bi Thủy Sám có dạy: “Hữu
cầu tắc ứng, vô nguyện bất cùng” (không cầu nào mà chẳng ứng, không
nguyện nào mà chẳng lành). Bởi thế, trong khi Pháp nạn xảy ra, chúng tôi
vô cùng bận rộn với nhiều công việc; nào phải tiếp xúc với nhiều thành
phần đến thăm hỏi và làm việc, nào phải giải quyết bao nhiêu việc cần
thiết...Trong lúc đó, may thay Đại đức Thích Nguyên Tạng (Phó trụ trì Tu
viện Quảng Đức tại Melbourne, chủ trang web quangduc.com), Đại đức Thích
Nhật Từ (trụ trì chùa Giác Ngộ ở VN, chủ trang web daophatngaynay.com) có
mặt tại Adelaide cũng như Thầy Thích Thông Chiếu (trụ trì Thiền Trang Hỷ
Xả tại Adelaide), ĐH Hải Hạnh đến lo hộ các thông báo, tin tức, hình ảnh
sự việc vừa xảy ra và đưa lên mạng internet, lên đài truyền hình, truyền
thanh, báo chí, cũng như tiếp xúc với các cơ quan hữuu trách. Không bao
lâu, sự việc đã được truyền đi khắp nơi trên thế giới. Chư Tôn Túc trưởng
lão, chư Thượng Tọa, Đại Đức Tăng, Ni xa gần, với tình Pháp hữu, các Ngài
không những trợ duyên bằng vật chất, mà còn gọi điện, gởi thư, email đến
khuyến tấn, chia xẻ, cầu nguyện tương trợ lẫn nhau trong cảnh ngộ ly hương
tị nạn. Cộng thêm với sự phát tâm cúng dường, ủng hộ một cách nhiệt thành,
tích cực của các trí thức Phật tử, các cộng đồng, đoàn thể, các văn nghệ
sĩ, các cơ quan truyền thông báo chí... trong và ngoài nước hết lòng giúp
đỡ. Nhờ vậy, mà ở trong chướng ngại vượt khỏi chướng ngại, từng bước, từng
bước tiến hành tái thiết lại ngôi Pháp Hoa tự. Sau một năm đầy vất vả,
thầy trò chúng tôi (cả Tăng, Ni và Phật tử) đã tái tạo được những công
trình đáng kể như: gắn hoa văn trên nóc chùa, tạo cho ngôi chùa tăng thêm
phần cổ kính như những ngôi chùa cổ tại Việt Nam, thay đổi và bổ sung thêm
những nét văn hóa cổ trong chánh điện, , thỉnh tượng Đức Bổn Sư, Quán Thế
Âm, Địa Tạng, Chuẩn Đề, Hộ Pháp và Già Lam bằng đồng có mạ vàng, thỉnh hai
đèn Dược Sư (đèn Quang minh), một trống Bát nhã, hai trống chiên, một
trống công phu, hai mõ gia trì lớn, mười hai lá phướng... tất cả đều thỉnh
tại Đài Loan. Đặt thỉnh một tượng Quán Âm Lộ Thiên cao 3m6, nặng 4 tấn
bằng đá hoa cương tại Việt Nam.
Sau một thời gian dài nghiên cứu nhiều
kiểu mẫu, cổng Tam Quan Pháp Hoa cũng đã tái thiết xong. Cổng này mặc dù
giá tiền không cao bằng cổng Tam Quan chùa Linh Sơn của TT Thích Tịnh Đạo
ở Melbourne (khoảng $250,000), hay quá đồ sộ như cổng Tam Quan tu viện Vạn
Hạnh của TT Thích Quảng Ba tại Canbera, cổng của Pháp Hoa chỉ tốn khoảng
một trăm mười lăm ngàn Úc kim, nhưng lối cấu trúc của nó được kết hợp hài
hòa giữa hai nền văn hóa Đông - Tây, nói lên tinh thần hội nhập của Phật
giáo Việt Nam vào đất nước Đa văn hóa Úc Đại Lợi trẻ trung thơ mộng này.
Tượng đài Quán Thế Âm Lộ Thiên ở bên
trái của chùa, nay cũng được đổi hướng, xây mặt ra trước cổng, trông rất
uy nghiêm, tô điểm ngôi chùa thêm quang đãng.
Về phần tịnh tài, mà các nơi gởi về
cúng dường, ủng hộ là: 245,148 Úc kim, bảo hiểm bồi thường: 70,000 Úc kim,
tổng cộng là 315,148 Úc kim.
Phần chi, thỉnh Phật, Pháp khí, Pháp cụ
từ Đài Loan và Việt Nam, trang trí và tu bổ lại chánh điện là: 204,237 Úc kim.
Xây cổng Tam Quan và dựng tượng đài
Quan Âm Lộ Thiên là: 134,203 Úc kim. Như vậy, sau khi hoàn tất tạm ba công
trình trên, chùa còn nợ lại 20,292 Úc kim.
Tưởng cũng nên nói thêm rằng, trong
công trình xây dựng trùng tu nầy, kỹ sư Hà Quốc Long, Võ Ngôn, Lê Thanh
Hiếu thực hiện họa đồ, giấy phép. Kiến trúc sư Nguyễn Công Duyệt, cố vấn
công trình, tất cả đều cúng dường công quả. Quý đạo hữu Nguyễn Văn Trí, Lê
Quang Toàn, Hà Văn Dũng, Hứa Quang Liêm, Vương Học, Lê Công Hoan, Lê Quang
Dũng, ĐH Hòa, Lê Duy Cường, Lê Ngọc Chấn, Văn Thanh Phú, Võ Văn Năm, Võ
Văn Lộc, Nguyễn Minh Dương, Từ Minh Tâm, Phùng Sở Cẩn, Trần Văn Khiên,
Nguyễn Văn Xuân, Văn Mỹ Dung, Trang Thành Trí..., các vị nầy cũng đều phát
tâm công quả vào công đức thù thắng này, tạo phước lành cho chúng sanh,
làm rạng rỡ chốn thiền môn vĩnh mậu.
Nói chung, nhờ chư Tôn Đức, Tăng, Ni,
Phật tử, Chư Thiện hữu trí thức và bà con đồng hương cảm kích trước sự
việc đau lòng ấy mà khởi tâm từ bi, hỷ xả, chung lòng cầu nguyện, giúp đỡ,
cúng dường, công quả, nên ngôi chùa Pháp Hoa mới có được như ngày hôm nay.
Chúng tôi vô cùng biết ơn, xin tán dương công đức Quý Ngài và liệt Quý vị.
Để tỏ lòng tri ân đến quý Ngài và quý
Phật tử mười phương, một đại lễ An vị khánh thành sẽ tổ chức trọng thể vào
các ngày 25, 26, 27 tháng 6 năm 2004 (nhằm ngày mùng 8, 9, 10 tháng 5 năm
Giáp Thân). Chương trình đại lễ sẽ gởi đến quý vị sau Thông bạch này.
Đại lễ, ngoài ý nghĩa tri ân như đã
trình bày trên, còn chú trọng đến sự cầu nguyện cho quốc thái dân an, thế
giới hòa bình, kẻ còn thì được vạn an, người mất thì được siêu sanh thoát
hóa.
Đại lễ có mời chư Tôn Đức Tăng Ni trong
và ngoài nước về chứng minh chú nguyện. Về phần quan khách, đặc biệt có
Ngài Thủ hiến, ông đại diện Đảng Đối lập và các viên chức lãnh đạo cấp cao
Úc - Việt tại Nam Úc.
Song song phần lễ nghi hành chánh
thường lệ, đàn tràng trai diên còn hướng tâm đến sự giải thoát tâm linh,
như: lễ Khai kinh, lễ Vớt vong chư hương linh bị chết chìm trên biển cả,
cúng Phật, Trai tăng, đăng đàn Chẩn tế...
Về phần vớt vong tại biển Adelaide, ban
tổ chức sẽ thuê 1 hoặc nhiều tàu thuyền (tùy theo số lượng quan khách đăng
ký nhiều hay ít). Thời gian tàu ra khơi vớt vong vừa đi vừa về là 3 tiếng
đồng hồ. Ban tổ chức sẽ có phần ăn trưa đơn giản cho quý khách trên tàu.
Để tránh tình trạng kém vui, kẻ đi
được, người ở lại trên bờ, xin quý vị nên lấy vé lên tàu càng sớm càng tốt,
tại địa điểm chùa Pháp Hoa, giá vé $22 (cả tiền thuê tàu, tiền thuê xe bus
đưa đón khách từ chùa đến bến tàu và tiền ăn trưa). Quý vị không nên để
đến lúc chuẩn bị lên tàu rồi mới lấy vé, thì BTC không thể nào lo cho quý
vị kịp. Thời gian bán vé đến cuối ngày 20/6/04 là hết hạn.
Đây là ngày lễ “Tam Hợp”, tức lễ
An Vị Phật, lễ Khánh Thành tượng Đài Quán Âm Lộ Thiên và lễ Khánh Thành
Cổng Tam Quan, một ngày lễ được coi như lớn nhất từ trước đến nay, mang
sắc thái đặc thù văn hóa Phật giáo Việt Nam ta. Mong rằng chư đồng hương
Phật tử hoan hỷ hưởng ứng tham gia, đóng góp một cách tích cực cho đại lễ
được thập phần viên mãn, cho kẻ còn người mất được hưởng hồng ân lợi lạc.

The
Consecration of the new statue of The Buddha in the Main Hall, The
Consecration of the statue of the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in the open
space and the Inauguration of the Three Entrance Gate to The Phap Hoa
Dharma Lotus Temple.
Distinguished guests and
learned friends, beloved sons and daughters of The Buddha,my dear
countrymen and women.
Nammo to The Most
Compassionate Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.
Ladies and gentlemen,
You may have remembered
that on June the 26th 2003 at about 3.00pm,a series of sharp and violent
sounds of tumbling and crashing articles and loud and turbulent noises of
breaking and smashing carried out by a “deranged person”,
echoed in the Main Hall of The Phap Hoa Dharma Lotus Temple. The Main Hall
of The Phap Hoa Dharma Lotus Temple,a linkage,a cementing element, a tying
knot connecting the human being to its spiritual existence,a place to
nurture friendship and promote national identity for the Vietnamese
community, had turned into a site of desolation and sorrow.
Facing such a frightfully
shocking sight the most composed person cannot avoid the feeling of deep
pain and sadness.
However right at the
beginning of the tragedy, there was in my mind a firm conviction that a
miraculous protection and support is coming our way.
Actually I have
recognized clearly the vision of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva with her
compassionate eyes showing me the way, step by step,how to deal with the
crisis in the Buddhist spirit of Loving Kindness,Compassion, Sympathetic
Joy and Equanimity.
Thanks to that, today we
were able to complete the restoration of the Main Hall, bringing peace and
harmony to the heart and mind of the people in the community.
In the Prayer for
Repentance through the Purifying Water of Maitri and Karuna, we were
told"No prayer will be left unanswered, No wow will not be realized".And
so,during our ordeal,we were very busy with many tasks,on the one hand
receiving visitors from different groups or meeting with various workers
involved in the clean up,on the other hand having to deal with a number of
issues of concern...
Luckily at that time
Reverend Thich Nguyen Tang (Deputy Abbot of the QuangDuc Monastery in
Melbourne), Reverend Thich Nhat Tu (Abbot of the Giac-Ngo Temple in
VietNam) were in Adelaide, also Bhiksu Thich Thong Chieu (Abbot of Hy Xa
Zen Meditation Village in Adelaide) and Fellow Buddhist Hai Hanh helped
sending messages, news, pictures of the recent event to the internet,
radio, TV stations and the press as well as meeting with the authorities.
Soon, the news spread all over the world.
All of our Most
Venerables, Venerables, Reverends, Bhiksus and Bhiksunis from near and
far,in the spirit of fellowship,not only sent us material assistance but
also rang us up,sent letters and emails to encourage us,sharing with us
their prayers in the spirit of mutual support,in our situation of refugees
away from home.
Together with the eager
support and warm-hearted donations and offerings, the zealous endeavour of
the Buddhist intellect, the enthusiastic assistance from various
communities and organisations, the earnest contribution from the artistic
groups and the media both here and abroad.
Thanks to all we have
been able to overcome adversities from within adversity itself and, step
by step, carry out the restoration of The Phap Hoa Dharma Lotus Temple.
After a year of toil and
labour, our Sangha and congregation achieved a few worthwhile tasks such
as the addition of decorative patterns to the temple's roof to enhance its
antique look, like the one found in ancient pagodas in Viet Nam.
We also changed and added
new cultural features to the Main Hall, acquired a new statue of The
Buddha, a statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, a statue of Ksitigarbha
Bodhisattva,a statue of Chundi Bodhisattva,a statue of Paladharma, a
statue of the Protector of Asram in gilded copper,two Multitude Buddhas
lanterns, a Prajna drum,two thundering drums,a large ritual drum, two
large ceremonial wooden gongs,twelve banners,all coming from Taipei.
We also commissioned the
sculpture of a statue of Avaloldtesvara Bodhisattva in granite from Viet
Nam, 3.6 metres high and weighing 4 tonnes, for open space worshipping.
After a long period of
study and research over a great number of models, the Three Entrance Gate
to the Phap Hoa Dharma Lotus Temple was finally redesigned and rebuilt.
It was not as costly as
the one at The Linh Son Holy Mountain Temple of Venerable Thich Tinh Dao
in Melbourne (about 250000$),or as grandiose as the one at The Van Hanh
Ten Thousand Blessings Monastery of Venerable Thich Quang Ba in Canberra.
The Three Entrance Gate
at The Phap Hoa Dharma Lotus Temple cost only 115000$ but its design and
architecture,bringing together in a delicate harmony the Eastern and
Western artistic and cultural taste and flavor, expressed its spirit of
integration of the Vietnamese Buddhist tradition to the young, sentimental
and multicultural Australia.
The site of the statue of
Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in the open space, formerly at the left side of
the temple, is now moved to the front facing the Gate.The statue looks
majestic and impressive, adorning and adding to the splendour of the
Temple.
Revenues: 245,148A$ from
gifts, donations and offerings, 70,OOOA$ insurance pay out,totalling
315,148A$.
Expenses: 204,237A$ for
the acquisition of the new statues and of the ceremonial implements from
Taipei and VietNam, together with the cost of repair and redecoration of
The Main Hall.
The construction of the
Three Entrances Gate and of the pedestal for the statue of Avalokitesvara
BodhisaUva costs 134,203A$.
Consequently there is a
deficit of 20,292A$ at the completion of the project. It is worth adding
that, in this building and restoration task, Mr Ha Quoc Long, Mr Vo Ngon
and Mr Le Thanh Hieu, engineers, drew the plan and obtained the building
approval.
Mr Nguyen Cong Duyet,
architect, supervised the construction.
They contributed their
free services as an offering to The Temple.

Huu Tri, Le Quang Toan, Ha Van Dung, Hua Quang Liem, Vuong Hoc, Le Cong
Hoan, Le Quang Dung,DH Hoa, Le Duy Cuong, Le Ngoc Chan, Van Thanh Phu, Vo
Van Nam, Nguyen Minh Duong, Tu Minh Tam, Phung So Can, Tran Van Khien,
Nguyen Van Xuan, Van My Dung, Trang Thanh Tri and many more...have
contributed their share of toil and labour in this most special occasion
of merits and blessings,bringing goodness and happiness to all sentient
beings,and brightening forever the beauty of this meditative place.
All in all,thanks to our
Most Venerables, Venerables, Reverends, Bhiksus, Bhiksunis, our Fellow
Buddhists,our Scholarly friends and Sympathizers,and our Fellow Countrymen
and Women,who were moved by this most tragic event and in the spirit of
Loving Kindness,Compassion,Sympathetic Joy and Equanimity,they have joined
in prayers and in providing help, offerings, toil and labour. Thanks to
the contribution of all and everyone The Phap Hoa Dharma Lotus Temple is
like now today.
We are immensely grateful
to each and everyone of you and praise your merits and blessings.
To express our gratitude
to You and to all Buddhists, a ceremony of Consecration and Inauguration
will be organized solemnly on 25,26 and 27 June 2004 (corresponding to
days 8,9 and 10 of the Fifth Lunar Calender Month in the Giap Than Year of
the Monkey).
The timetable for the
ceremony will be forwarded later on.
The ceremony, besides the
expression of gratitude as above said, also aims at praying for the
prosperity of nations and the happiness of their citizens,peace for the
world,safety and security for the living beings,emancipation and rebirth
to a higher level of existence for the departed ones. The organizing
committee has invited a number of Most Venerables, Venerables,
Reverends, Bhiksus and
Bhiksunis from interstate and from overseas to come and join us in prayers
and invocations and in confirmation of our vows and deeds.
Among our guests we are
most honoured by the presence of The State Premier, The Representative of
The Opposition, the Higher Officials and Leaders of both Australian and
Vietnamese communities in South Australia.
During the usual official
ceremony,the celebration and the catering, the occasion will also focus on
the spiritual liberation such as:The Ritual before reciting the Sutras,The
Ceremony of Rescuing the Manes of Those Drown at Sea,Offerings to The
Buddha and The Sangha,Ritual to bring Relief to the Spirits in Need...
For The Ceremony of
Rescuing the Manes of Those Drown at Sea around Adelaide, the organizing
committee planned to hire a number of boats(depending on the number of
participating persons).The time spent in the ceremony is 3 ho urs for trip
and return. There will be a simple meal on board.
To avoid facing the
unfortunate situation of some going and some having to miss the occasion,
please get your ticket as soon as convenient at The Phap Hoa Dharma Lotus
Temple.Ticket price is 22A$(including boat hire, bus transportation, and
catering).Please do not wait until before departure to buy ticket as we
will not be able to serve you in time. The tickets are available only
until 20.06.04.
This occasion is a “Three
Ceremony Celebration” including the Consecretion of The Statue of The
Buddha, the Consecration of The Statue of Avalokitesvara in The
Open and the Inauguration of the Three Entrance Gate.
This is the biggest of
all celebrations to date and it certainly carries the very characteristic
features of our Vietnamese Buddhist Culture.
We hope that our
Countrymen and Women and our Fellow Buddhists will joyfully respond to
this message, gladly participate and eagerly contribute to
the success of the
celebration, bringing spiritual gifts and blessings, happiness and
prosperity to all, living or departed.
