Lễ vớt vong

Lễ vớt vong trên biển là thể hiện lòng từ bi và trí tuệ, mang ý nghĩa cứu
giúp và cứu khổ.
Vì thế sự bỏ Tổ quốc ra
đi, chúng ta đã đến được bến bờ tự do của đất khách quê người, được ăn no
mặt ấm. Nhưng mấy ai hay rằng, cũng cùng chung cảnh ngộ ấy, mà biết bao số
mạng hẩm hiu đã vong thân nơi biển cả, biết bao oan ức chịu kiếp trầm luân
không người thờ cúng. Những vong hồn ấy bây giờ vẫn còn đang chơi vơi khóc
than nơi góc biển chân trời, chịu cảnh đói khát, lạnh lẽo, u buồn. Hơn thế
nữa, trong bất cứ thời đại nào, bất cứ dân tộc nào cũng có những người
chết oan; hoặc vì chiến tranh, hoặc vì tai nạn, hoặc vì oan tình... Đức
Phật dạy: chúng sanh trong vô lượng kiếp đã từng là bà con quyến thuộc của
chúng ta vì bởi kiếp luân hồi sanh tử, tử sanh. Vì vậy, ắt hẳn trong đó có
cả bà con quyến thuộc của mình, chúng ta hãy thương nhớ và tưởng niệm họ,
cầu nguyện ánh hào quang của đức Phật A Di Đà chiếu soi và tiếp độ họ sớm
vãng sanh về cõi an lạc, cầu nguyện cho giọt nước cam lồ của đấng Đại bi
Quán Âm xoa diệu những nỗi xót xa đoạn trường nơi cảnh âm ty mờ mịt.
Nhân trong đại lễ An vị,
khánh thành tượng dài Quan Âm, và cổng Tam Quan của chùa Pháp Hoa này, chư
Tăng, Ni và Phật tử thực hiện tâm bi nguyện này. Tâm bi nguyện này tức là
tâm bi nguyện Bồ Tát. “Dù xây chín bậc Phù đồ, không bằng làm
phúc cứu cho một người”. Con người đây là những người đã quá
cố, những linh hồn cô đơn không người thờ tự. Những oan hồn ấy sẽ được chư
Tôn đức Tăng, Ni và quý Phật tử thân hành ra biển để chú nguyện gọi mời
đồng quy về chùa Pháp Hoa để thọ hưởng Cam lồ Pháp thực. Tưởng rằng, đấy
cũng chính là sự cứu giúp thiết thực, sự đem đến hạnh phúc thật sự cho họ.
Chúng ta hãy cầu nguyện
buổi lễ được thành tựu, các oan hồn hiện còn đang đắm chìm nơi đại dương
sóng cả nhân trong dịp này được vãng sanh thoát hóa, nhà nhà hạnh phúc,
nhân loại thái bình.

THE CEREMONY OF
RESCUING
THE MANES OF
THOSE DROWN AT SEA
This ceremony, an
expression of Loving Kindness and Compassion, of Intelligence and Wisdom,
carries with it the meaning of support and rescue,of relief and freedom
from suffering.
Due to worldly matters we
left our country and arrived safely to the shore of freedom, in the land
of our host and the birth place of other people. We have been well fed and
well clad.
However few of us realized
that at the same time, in the same circumstances, many unfortunate people
have perished at high sea, suffering unjustly the ordeal of their spirit
not being attended to through prayers and offerings.
Those spirits are still
wandering and lamenting somewhere over the seas and in the horizon,
suffering from hunger and thirst, loneliness and sadness.
Moreover,at any time and
in any country,there always are people who died untimely and unjustly in
war,or by accident,or being victim of injustice.
The Buddha taught us that
all sentient beings,in incalculable numbers of kalpas, were our own
relatives because of the ever returning cycle of death and rebirth in the
Samsara.
Consequently, there must
be some of our relatives among them.
So let us spare a thought
for them and pray that the radiance of the infinite light of The Amitabha
Buddha reached them and guided their spirit to be reborn sooner in the
Pure Land of peace and joy.
We also pray to The Most
Compassionate Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva to send them a drop of Ambrosial
Sweet Dew to soothe their spirit and relieve their suffering in those dark
and hellish places.
On the occasion of the
Consecration of The Statue of the Buddha, the Consecration of The Statue
of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and the Inauguration of the Three Entrance
Gate of the Phap Hoa Dharma Lotus Temple, our Bhiksus, Bhiksunis and
Fellow Buddhists will bring to realization their very vow of Compassion.
The vow of Compassion is
the vow of a Bodhisattva.
It has been said that:
“The merit of building
of a 9 steps stupa cannot compare to the deed of saving of a single person”.
The persons you will help
to save are the deceased ones, the souls of lonely people without a
relative to care for them.
Our Most Venerables,
Venerables, Reverends, Bhiksus, Bhiksunis and Fellow Buddhists will
personally come to the sea to pray for and invite the spirit of Those
Drown at Sea to return to the Phap Boa Dharma Lotus Temple to receive
their share of Dharma Food and Ambrosial Sweet Dew.
We think that this is a
realistic support and rescue, bringing to them true joy and happiness.
Let us pray for the
success of the present ceremony.
Let us pray for those
people, still lying under the tall waves and at the bottom of the high
seas, to be reborn into the Pure Land or to a higher level of existence.
Finally
let us pray for the joy and happiness of each and every household, and for
the peace and the prosperity of all humankind.
